Resource regions population reports

These annual reports contain non‑resident (fly‑in/fly‑out and drive‑in/drive‑out (FIFO/DIDO)) population estimates for the Bowen Basin, Surat Basin and Gladstone region. The reports are based on data collected by Queensland Government Statistician’s Office at the end of June of the reporting year.

Data are provided for local government areas and select localities within these regions. These non‑resident populations are added to the resident population estimates to give full–time equivalent population estimates, which provide a more complete indicator of total demand for infrastructure and services in the region.

The reports also include information regarding the supply of commercial accommodation and take‑up by FIFO/DIDO workers.

Data tables are also available for download in Excel format.

Non–resident population projections for these regions are also available.

The resource communities research program outputs contain information about FIFO/DIDO workers by local government areas (LGA) in each of the resource regions. If you are looking for detailed statistics about usual residents of these regions, data by LGA can be found in the Queensland Regional Database, while customised data for statistical areas level 2 (SA2) can be found in the Resource Regions System. Please note that resource regions defined by SA2 will differ from those defined by LGA boundaries.
