(a) Includes standard, petty and innovation Australian patent applications by Australian applicants, and includes all non-PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) applications filed and PCT national phase entries for each year.
(b) The top 15 local governement areas have been selected based on the highest number of applications in 2006.
(c) The innovation patent replaced the petty patent in May 2001. The number of applications for innovation patents filed each year are nearly double that of petty patents.
