This Q150 Statistical Story summarises the census from early colonial and state-based censuses through to the modern-day national census. Since 1986, the Queensland Government has undertaken an awareness campaign in the lead up to the census to supplement the ABS marketing campaigns. The purpose of the campaign is to increase the count in Queensland, and improve the quality of responses. The approach of these campaigns has been on finding innovative ways to reach the Queensland population and to introduce programs that have an enduring impact. Two such campaigns have been CensusAtSchool in 2001 and the Indigenous Awareness campaign in 2006.
