The Australian Standard Classification of Cultural and Ethnic Groups (ASCCEG) is the Australian statistical standard for classifying data relating to the ethnic and cultural composition of the Australian population. ASCCEG is a classification of cultural and ethnic groups based on the geographical area in which a group originated or developed and the similarity of cultural and ethnic groups in terms of social and cultural characteristics.
The classification should be used when collecting, classifying and presenting data related to personal characteristics such as ethnic identity, ancestry and cultural identity.
The full classification can be downloaded from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website: ASCCEG.
