Standard International Trade Classification

The Standard International Trade Classification (SITC), Revision 4, is the standard classification for the reporting of international trade statistics.

In July 2008, an updated version of SITC was released, replacing the previous Revision 3. SITC Revision 4 provides a more contemporary and internationally comparable trade classification system.

Information and related tools for the impact of introducing SITC Revision 4 are available from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.

SITC provides detailed categories for the classification of commodities and is arranged in a hierarchy of five levels.

It has been developed by the United Nations and is compatible with other international classifications of industries and products.

A detailed structure and explanatory notes for this classification can be viewed through the United Nations website.
