The Queensland Government Statistician’s Office (QGSO) has partnered with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to establish a Secure Environment for Analysing Data (SEAD) known as the QGSO SEADpod.
The QGSO SEADpod is a secure QGSO-managed environment within the ABS cloud environment used for ABS DataLab. All data are hosted onshore by Microsoft Azure cloud computing services and accessed through a virtual desktop.
QGSO information, data and outputs are protected by law under the Statistical Returns Act 1896 and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld). To ensure the security and confidentiality of information, SEAD is certified under the Information Security Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) to handle Protected level data. The QGSO SEADpod leverages existing ABS DataLab controls and uses the Five Safes Framework. Consideration of the treatment of personal information has been documented and published in the ABS Privacy Impact Assessment Secure Environment for Analysing Data.
As administrator of the QGSO SEADpod, QGSO manages all data inputs and outputs, user access and project workspaces. All projects and user access must be approved by the Government Statistician.
The QGSO SEADpod is equipped with a range of software including LibreOffice, Acrobat Reader, Notepad ++, Git, R, Stata and Python.
A range of Government data may be accessed upon approval via the QGSO SEADpod. Access is provided on a cost recovery basis.
